What is the purpose of this program?
Many families in our community are pet owners who love their pets but are having a difficult time providing food for both their families and their pets. This program reduces the risk of families being forced to give up their beloved pets because they can’t afford to feed them by providing temporary help.
How do I receive assistance?
If you are in need of aid to keep your pet in your home, please visit the HSFC website for details and an application under the Ani-Meals program, or visit our offices to fill out an application. If neither of these options is available, the HSFC can mail you information on the program.
Participants are to provide proof of low-income status at the time application is reviewed. Examples are: Social Security Income, disability income, unemployment, and food stamps, temporary assistance for needy families, Medicaid, etc.
What if the participant does not have proof low-income status?
Determination of eligibility will be on a case-by-case basis, with input from the Board of Directors. Applications should be submitted with an explanation of the applicant’s circumstances. Some exceptions may be made due to home foreclosure, unanticipated medical expenses, etc.
Do participants need to register for food and supplies?
Yes, participants must be pre-registered before receiving assistance.
Do I need to make an appointment to pick up the food and supplies? Are there designated dates and times for pickup?
No. As long as the HSFC offices are open food distribution is available. Hours are Monday thru Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 10-3. Pet food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants may come once a month.
Do you deliver food to those who have no means of picking up?
The HSFC does not have the resources available for delivery, however if there is a need we will do our best to find a volunteer who can help. This decision will be determined on a case by case basic.
How much food can I receive?
Quantities will be dependent on the size of your pet and will be according to standard recommended feeding guidelines. The donated food must be for your pet only. You cannot pick up food for friends or neighbors. We ask that only a month’s worth of food is taken to ensure we have enough supplies to help all those who need our assistance.
Can I request types of brands of food my pet needs?
The food and supplies our pantry receives is generously donated by the public therefore we cannot guarantee specific brands will be available from month to month.
Is there a limit to number of animals that I can receive food for?
We will discuss the number of animals you presently have at the time of sign up. If, you are over the state or county restrictions, we would need to set some limits. Any additional animals added will be subject to approval by HSFC Officials.
Am I limited to the number of visits to the pantry?
Yes participants may come once a month to visit the pantry. At that time updates to your contract information contact can be completed.
To participate, am I required to have my pet spayed or neutered?
Yes you are required to have your pet spayed or neutered; however, if this has not been done we can provide you with assistance for low cost spaying and neutering. We strongly encourage you to help us stop pet over-population.
To participate, am I required to provide proof of vaccinations?
