We greatly appreciate your wish to include our organization in your will and the animals’ thank you, as well. Your gift will help provide medical attention and daily care to the many abused and abandoned animals that make their way into our organization. It also allows us to assist pet owners with sick or injured pets, and assist with spaying and neutering of animals in an effort to stem pet overpopulation. In addition, these funds will enable us to stock our pet food pantry, Ani-Meals, with lots of nutritious food for those who need our help feeding their precious pets in these difficult times.
Here are a few suggestions for you to include in your will or bequest:
You, or your attorney, can simply write: I give and/or bequeath to the Humane Society of Fairfax County, Inc. 4057 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 the sum of _______ dollars or I bequeath and/or give the Humane Society of Fairfax County, Inc. the following: ____________________________ (insert description of property, certificates, etc. or a fraction or percentage of your residuary estate).
If you have already drawn a will but you would like to amend it so that animals will benefit, you can add a statement to the will (a codicil) to include our animal organization in your wishes. The following wording will suffice: I hereby amend my last will and testament executed on ____ day of _______ in the year ______. I direct that all provisions of that will remain in effect and in addition I bequeath to The Humane Society of Fairfax County, Inc. 4057 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030, and the sum of _____ dollars. (A codicil changing your residuary estate will require you to make other adjustments. Your attorney can advise you.)
You should specify the Humane Society of Fairfax County’s correct title, address, and Federal I.D. number (54-6064956) so that funds are not misdirected to a society with a similar name. Bequeathing money to us also reduces the amount of taxes levied on your estate.

Thank you so much for honoring our organization and the animals in our care and for those who we help and assist every day. We could not do the work we do without the support of wonderful people like you.
